Yard Waste Collections

Autumn yard waste collections ended in late November and early December.  Spring curbside collection or drop-offs resume in April in all four IRC recycling communities and drop-off or collection opportunities continue throughout the year.  In addition to the county compost facility on the Buckhorn, Tyrone and Altoona accept material at their public works garages during regular operational hours.

Yard Waste Guidelines
  • Check out our 2011 Spring and Summer collection schedule above or the schedule for the county yard waste facilities.
  • Only compostable materials should be set out for collection or be placed in the paper bags.
  • Tree stumps and root balls WILL NOT be collected.
  • Leaves and grass clippings should be go in the standard 30 gallon kraft paper bag.
  • Do not tape the paper bags shut.  Simply fold over the top of the bag.
  • No plastic bags will be collected in any of the municipalities and trash collectors may not put them in the trash.
  • Logan Township residents may also choose to rake leaves to the curb or roadside, rather than bagging them.
  • Logan Township cannot vacuum 100 % grass clippings, please place them in bags.
  • Leaf piles should not contain stones or other foreign material.
  • Woody trimmings are also part of the spring collections but collection crews cannot collect whole cut trees.
  • Be sure to set out manageable piles of brush and branches.  We cannot take branches larger than five inches in diameter.
  • Small twigs and other fine material should be bagged.
  • Before and after curbside collections, drop-offs are available at the Tyrone and Altoona municipal highway yards and the county yard waste facilities.
